Monica Macovei – cea care a susținut-o și a propulsat-o pe Laura Codruța Kovesi la șefia Parchetului General – revine cu o nouă campanie de dezinformare și de denigrare a României în Parlamentul European. De această dată, Macovei îi bombardează pe toți europarlamentarii cu e-mailuri prin care acuză autoritățile române de dezinformare în legătură cu ancheta care o vizează pe favorita sa și o denigrează pe procuroarea Adina Florea, cea care o anchetează pe Kovesi.
Mințind și transmițând informații false, în încercarea de a duce în derizoriu ancheta Secției pentru investigarea infracțiunilor din justiție care o vizează pe Kovesi, Macovei – inițiatoarea proiectului Parchetului European – încearcă să obțină voturile necesare pentru a o propulsa pe fosta șefă a DNA la șefia acestei instituții europene, așa cum a propulsat-o la vârful Parchetului General în România. Chiar și ilegal și neprocedural, în condițiile în care Kovesi nici măcar nu îndeplinește unul dintre criteriile de bază pentru a ocupa acest post: are doar grad de tribunal, și nu cel mai înalt grad în Parchetul din țara sa – una dintre condițiile minime pe care aceasta ar trebui să le îndeplinească pentru a ocupa un astfel de post.
Monica Macovei calcă astfel încă o dată pe lege și încalcă norme elementare, încercând să transforme Parlamentul European în ce a făcut cu DNA și cu Justiția din România în perioada în care a ocupat funcția de ministru al justiției, când a promovat abuzurile și practicile nelegale, inclusiv în numirea procurorilor – șefi și în ceea ce s-a numit reorganizarea DNA.
Iată cum își începe Monica Macovei seria de e-mailuri transmise tuturor europarlamentarilor, sub titlul. Primul dintre acestea, a fost transmis miercuri, sub titlul:

Laura Codruta Kovesi este prima în ordinea preferințelor comisiei de selecție pentru funcția de procuror șef al EPPO.
De la bun început, guvernul român a luat o poziție împotriva sa, domnul Tudorel Toader, ministrul justiției, declarând că va face tot posibilul pentru a face cunoscute oficialilor europeni presupusele ilegalități ale doamnei Kovesi. Guvernul încearcă acum să o oprească cu orice preț.
Miercuri și vineri, Macovei revine și cu update-uri, ultimul fiind conceput pentru denigrarea Adinei Florea:
„Procurorul care investighează pe doamna Kovesi este doamna Adina Florea, care a fost propusă de două ori de ministrul justiției ca înlocuitor pentru doamna Kovesi pentru funcția de procuror șef al DNA. Aceste propuneri au fost respinse de președintele Iohannis pe baza opiniei negative a CSM. Doamna Florea, a declarat că „ea nu a fost niciodată un procuror independent”. Dna Florea este în prezent procuror șef adjunct la Secția de Investigare a Magistraților. În urma acestor evoluții, există îngrijorări serioase cu privire la capacitatea doamnei Florea de a rămâne imparțială în această anchetă.”, scrie Macovei.

Laura Codruta Kovesi is the first in the order of preference of the EPPO selection panel, for the position of EPPO chief prosecutor.
From the very beginning, the Romanian Government took a stance against her, Mr. Tudorel Toader, the Minister of Justice declaring that he would do everything possible to make European officials aware of Mrs. Kovesi’s alleged wrongdoing. The Government is now trying to stop her at any cost.
Wednesday 13.02.2019, FACTS:
· At 8 PM o’clock, a police officer came to her door handed her a subpoena for a hearing as a suspect, for Friday 15.02.2019. The press was immediately alerted and Ms. Kovesi made several public statements on TV and on the radio, on the same evening.
· Ms. Kovesi stated that she did not know exactly the offences for which she became a suspect, but took into account information that had appeared on websites close to the newly founded Magistrates’ Investigation Section, created by this Government against the recommendations issued by the Venice Commission in June 2018.
· Ms. Kovesi explained that her opinion was that the subpoena referred to the extradition of Nicolae Popa. Mr. Popa was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for running a Ponzi-style scheme, which prejudiced over 300,000 people. He had fled in Indonesia to avoid serving his sentence. Mr. Popa was extradited in 2011, when Ms. Kovesi was the General Prosecutor of Romania. His extradition request was approved by the President of Indonesia, on 22.03.2011, following a decision of an Indonesian Court in this sense.
· The investigation against Ms. Kovesi started following the denouncement of former MP Sebastian Ghita in 2017. In December 2016, while being criminally investigated, Mr. Ghita fled to Serbia in order to avoid detention.
· Ghita declared in 2017 that he had paid for the plane in which Mr. Popa was brought back to Romania back in 2011. This however is false and contrary to the statements of the Romanian Police, who declared in December 2018 that the institution had paid for the chartered plane.

· In January 2017, the General Attorney’s Office issued a press release stating that their investigations confirmed that the Romanian Police had carried out the extradition process and had paid for the plane used in the procedure. http://www.mpublic.ro/en/content/c_09-01-2017-16-01
· Furthermore, prosecutors were investigating Mr. Ghita’s statements on this matter.
On the evening of 13.02.2019, Ms. Kovesi made the following public statements:
“I know that I am innocent, I know it is an intermediary stage in the beginning of the criminal investigation. (…) Starting an investigation ten years after, does not justify the urgency of being summoned right before the start of the procedure in Brussels.
Through this method they are trying to stop me in this procedure (…)
I will not stop, despite all the harassment I am subjected to.
I have absolutely no problem to explain these things to the prosecutors, but what is bizarre and offensive is that this criminal prosecution notice weirdly appeared right before my hearing in the European Parliament. It is obvious that this is a way of trying to discredit me, (…) I think this is also a revenge, for my complaint at the ECHR.
Despite the fact that the investigation started in 2017, I became a suspect now, exactly the day before I should have left to Brussels and … just before the hearing in the European Parliament.”

UPDATE Friday, 15.02.2019, FACTS:
On 15.02.2019 Ms. Kovesi went to the Magistrates’ Investigation Section, following the subpoena of 13.02.2019. She was presented with the charges against her. Upon leaving the prosecution office, Ms Kovesi made the following public statements to the journalists waiting for her:
“There is no coincidence. For the past two and a half years I have been harassed with criminal charges and disciplinary actions.
I’m not the only one in this situation. All those who have done their job in the magistracy now have problems. For instance: the president of the Supreme Court is subject of a disciplinary action against her; disciplinary actions are also carried against the members of the Judicial Council, who have been vocal; prosecutors and judges who have commented on the Laws of Justice are also subjects of disciplinary procedures against them.
As of 2017, based on the statements made by this defendant [the denouncer, Mr. Ghita], a criminal investigation was opened, specifically on this extradition. That was January 2017, and I am called at the prosecution office just when I have to attend this hearing [in the EP]. So NO, there is no coincidence.”
The prosecutor investigating Ms. Kovesi is Mrs. Adina Florea, who was twice proposed by the Minister of Justice as a replacement for Ms. Kovesi for the position of DNA chief prosecutor. These proposals were refused by President Iohannis based on the negative opinion of the Judicial Council. Mrs. Florea, stated that “she had never been an independent prosecutor”. Mrs. Florea is currently chief deputy prosecutor at the Magistrates’ Investigation Section. Following these developments, serious concerns exist over Mrs. Florea’s ability to remain impartial in this investigation.
