Denmark closes investigation into Nord Stream explosions

Denmark said on Monday that it was closing its investigation into the blasts on the Nord Stream pipelines transporting gas from Russia to Germany in 2022, Politico reports.

“Based on the investigation, the authorities can conclude that there was deliberate sabotage of the gas pipelines. At the same time, it is assessed that there is no necessary basis for pursuing criminal proceedings in Denmark,” Danish daily newspaper Politiken reported, citing the Copenhagen police.

Earlier this month, Sweden announced it was ending its investigation into the mysterious explosions that blew up the undersea pipelines after concluding that the country’s courts do not have jurisdiction over the case.

Several countries have been publicly blamed for the explosions, with varying degrees of evidence. Ukraine has said Russia was behind the bombing, and Poland has also hinted that Moscow was responsible, which the Kremlin has denied.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the fact that Denmark has suspended the investigation into the Nord Stream pipelines explosions “close to absurd”, according to the Russian state run news agency RIA Novosti.
