US citizens who intend to travel to Yemen are advised to postpone the trip, and those who are there to “leave the country”
The US and the UK have closed their embassies in Yemen and evacuated the employees of the two diplomatic missions, as well as their families, in the context of the growing insecurity in the country, announced on Wednesday the State Department and Foreign Office, quoted by AFP.
„Due to the deteriorating security situation in Sanaa, the State Department has suspended the Embassy activities on the 11th of February, 2015, and the staff was transferred outside the country”, stated American diplomacy, adding that “all consular services, routine and/or urgent have been suspended until further notice”.
The State Department recommends US citizens who intend to travel to Yemen to postpone their trip and those who are already there to “leave the country”, due to “high level of threat following terrorist activities and civil unrest”.
Britain has also announced the closing of its embassy in Yemen. “The security-related situation in Yemen continued to deteriorate in recent days. We believe that our staff and offices are at great risk”, stated a representative of the Foreign Office for BBC.
