The Romanian National Liberal Party (PNL) asked other political forces in parliament to agree to a “truce” to support a minority government for a limited time to end a political crisis and see the country through the worsening Covid-19 pandemic, according to Bloomberg.

„After failing to secure support for a cabinet after five days of talks, Prime Minister-designate Nicolae Ciucă sent a letter on Tuesday to the leaders of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the USR, urging them to back a cabinet comprised by Liberals and UDMR for a few months,” said Florin Cîțu, the PNL Party leader.

“We can resume talks on a future governing coalition once we get through the winter and the current health crisis. (…) We can’t afford to play games with the citizens’ lives anymore,” added Cîțu.

Ciucă has until Sunday to submit a government for parliamentary approval.
