On Thursday, President Barack Obama announced that he authorized targeted military strikes in Iraq to protect the American personnel on site, warning the jihadists of the Islamic State that they will be targeted if they advance towards Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, AFP informs.
„I authorized the targeted attacks, if necessary, to help the Iraqi forces, fighting (…) to protect the civilians who are trapped” said Obama at the White House.
If the jihadists advance towards Erbil, they will be targeted, warned the American President.
„We can act responsibly and prudently to prevent a possible genocide” said Obama, also announcing that he ordered the parachuting of food for the population threatened by the advancement of the jihadists.
