The EcoLogics Studio has created a device that produces as much oxygen as 400.000 square feet of forest on a daily basis. It is called the Urban Algae Canopy and it ‘integrates micro-algal cultures and real time digital cultivation protocols on a unique architectural system’.
It also responds to its environment. The water flows and the energy are regulated by visitor usage and weather. Photosynthesis is increased by the sun’s rays, and the Urban Algae Canopy produces organic shade.
The Canopy is just a prototype, but it opens up a huge number of possibilities, from urban temperature control, to managing the production cycle of vertical farms in the urban areas.
