Starting today, selfie sticks have been declared “banned” inside Disneyland, and inside every other Disney-owned theme park.

“We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family and, unfortunately, selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast” – Suzi Brown, Disney spokesperson, for The Orange County Register

People with selfie sticks will be asked to leave them at the entrance and pick them up when they leave.

Last week, a passenger took out a selfie stick in the middle of a Disneyland ride, prompting the operators to stop the coaster, due to safety concerns. The decision to ban selfie sticks comes right after this incident, although Disney officials declared that it had nothing to do with the ban.

The Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals, along with the Smithsonian Institution are among the latest to ban the use of selfie sticks.
